Hello! My name is Theresa Luxford and I’ve been in love with all things sugarcrafty since the 1990s. Just like so many people, it started with making cakes for my children and developed into evening classes, workshops and teaching it myself. My big passion is the elegant wedding cake with sugar flowers, but I also find a big demand for my modelling, either for cake toppers or children’s novelty cakes.
My day job is as a part time primary school teacher where I specialise in Art & DT. I love working with children and seeing how enthusiastic they are about anything creative. I also work with my local children’s hospice, offering cupcake classes to the parents so they get a couple of hours out of the house.
It was here that I saw for myself just how therapeutic it is to get together with like-minded people who need companionship whilst learning a new skill. I know myself how life can sometimes be so hard and the smallest of kindnesses make a difference. Just by absorbing myself in some form of sugarcraft I find a relaxation that all the mindfulness in the world can’t match! This can be lonely though, so working with a small group brings companionship and a support system as well as new skills.
I’m a mum of two and a grandmother of three gorgeous grandchildren who keep me busy with their requests for birthday cakes. I love walking my dog and a great night in for me involves Netflix and a glass of wine! I have recently taken up calligraphy and this is proving to be almost as addictive as sugarcraft.
Two years ago I was lucky to be chosen to appear on the Kirsty Allsop Handmade Christmas program. It was an amazing experience and despite all the stress, sleepless nights and general anxiety, I loved every single moment. It just shows that you should always push yourself beyond your boundaries - you never know where you might end up!
