Dellissima Cakes

covering Retford, Nottinghamshire and surrounding area

I created the award winning Dellissima Cakes in 2011; Whilst recovering from major surgery following a road traffic accident, I realised I needed to take care of my wellbeing, so I began making sugarcraft decorations for cupcake toppers. I gave them to colleagues who instantly said they tasted amazing, looked great and quickly encouraged me to sell cakes. After posting pictures on social media, a flurry of order requests followed! Dellissima Cakes was born!

I am a professionally trained, multi-award winning sugarcraft artist, having studied at college for several years, as well as being taught by several international sugarcraft celebrities. With over 30 years of experience, many of my techniques are also innovative and self-taught. So, not only do my cakes taste great, they look amazing too! This has resulted in multiple international awards.

I love pushing the boundaries of creating showstopper, extreme cakes and I’m highly skilled in hand carving wedding and novelty cakes into exciting designs. My wedding cakes are known for being extremely big - 7 tiers and over 6 feet tall! I love adding fine details into my work, personalising amazing designs for the individual.

I’m also a psychiatric nurse and a Clinical Educator in Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, where I train people in mental health awareness and suicide risk; I am told that I am a natural teacher by those I’ve taught through my health training sessions and by students on my cake decorating classes.

I keep my sugarcraft classes small enough in size to give everyone plenty of personal time to learn and ask questions, as well as to give lots of extra tips. My classes are warm and friendly, with students returning to learn a different subject quite regularly. Sugarcraft helps me to relax and to unleash creativity I didn't know I had. Now I would like to help others to relax whilst learning or improving their sugarcraft skills, as a Cake Minds teacher. It is a fabulous way of achieving mindfulness, of being in the here and now, focusing on what you’ll be creating. It is also a lot of fun and a great way to help our own wellbeing. Whether you choose to do this for fun, a hobby or to sell your products, it is a great way to enjoy yourself.

At Cake International, I have been awarded Gold twice and several other awards. I have actively founded and managed a number of groups to work as collaborations, including The Sugar Alchemists in which we were awarded a Certificate of Merit, and The Three Sugartiers, performing live on stage in the Cake Off, then in the Live Championships. We won gold in 2019.

I have had work published in a number of local and national papers and wedding and cake decorating magazines and I have done live demonstrations for Sugar and Crumbs.

I was awarded Bassetlaw District Council’s Achiever Award at a prestigious event for achievements with cake. I've created cakes for prestigious local events at the Town Hall and in 2019 I won the Best Artisan Award in the North Notts Business Awards.

I have been involved in several cake show collaborations at Cake International and online including:

Bagpuss & Friends - A Cake Collective Collaboration

Paul Bradford Sugarcraft School

The Three Sugartiers (co-founded by me)

The Sugar Witches

Cake is not the Issue Here - tribute to Terry Pratchett - The Cake Collective

Apart from working and sugarcrafting, I am a keen Formula One fan, especially Ferrari. I enjoy football, particularly Doncaster Rovers, where I can be heard chanting like anyone else! I love the theatre and cinema and spending time with my family. I’ve recently become a grandmother for the first time, so as soon as my Grandson is big enough, I’ll be sure to get him a Dellissima Cakes apron!
