As I write this in February 2020 I am busy setting up my new Cake School and Studio in Kingshill, where I have lived since 2007 with my husband.  Although I will predominantly be making wedding cakes, I will be teaching modelling skills and cake making techniques.

I started making cakes in 2015 as a hobby, which rapidly grew into almost a full-time job, after I attended a “Cupcake Course” with the famous “Eric Lanlard” at the “Cake-Boy” bakery in Battersea which was given to me as a Christmas present. I love my job because it is so rewarding meeting new clients, and being part of their wedding journey. I would say my “Sugarcraft Speciality” is modelling and I love teaching my students new skills watching them develop over time. I am currently training to be a Pastry chef at Westminster College in London, training on the City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma which is very exciting.

I love being part of the cake industry because I have met and made some really amazing friends over the past 5 years, I have attended many different courses (with many different tutors) from all over the world, with everyone offers on-going support and advice when needed. I was recently part of the “Sugar Witches” cake collaboration at Cake International 2019, as well as exhibiting two of my own pieces. I also took part in the on-line cake collaboration “For the Little Ones” which purely raises money for children’s charities.

I have become a  “Cake Minds” teacher, so I can teach and encourage new sugarcraft modelling students, who want to grasp the basic skills of, and enable them to develop their techniques  but also be a part of a new and growing community. And for me personally I am looking forward to being a part of a new “Teaching Community” and meeting like minded colleagues.

I was really proud to pass my “PME Masters” in Sugarcraft, Royal 0 and Sugar flowers about 5 years ago, and equally proud to have received “two Silver Awards, two Bronze Awards and a Merit Award” in the last three years at “Cake International”

I sold my “Children’s Day Nursery” Business in November 2019, which I had owned for over 18 years giving me time to build my Cake School and Studio,  I have three gorgeous dogs who I adore!!! And last but by no means least, I am currently training to ride across Portugal in October 2020 (600 miles)!!! To raise funds for “Breast Cancer Care” luckily, I am a very keen “Road Bike Fanatic”

Rhu is passionate about her teachers, supporting and enabling them to build their own network of students. Most students are new to Sugarcraft and are cheered on as they pursue their own journeys in this exciting and diverse community, forming lifelong friendships that involve more than just the regular meetings.

Cake Minds aims to build a global network of teachers that offer new skills by bringing together the Sugarcraft community from a virtual platform to a local supportive community near you. Support and advice is offered in a mindful and creative space on a regular basis in small, friendly, informal settings.
