Please don't share this page - it is for cake minds students only

thank you

Welcome to CakeMinds

We are so pleased that you have decided to join us as a student

Being a Cake Minds student on an Accredited Cake Minds Teachers class, is more than just going to any sugarcraft class, you can be assured that your teacher has requested to be a Cake Minds teacher because they share the same outlook as me.

I have loved teaching my regular students over the years and formed very close friendships with some of them too, we have been there for each other through some difficult times and that makes for a very special relationship.  I hope that you find that same experience and not only receive but give support and encouragement to your fellow students and your teacher for many years to come.

Each project is designed to take about two hours and to be a fun experience, it is vital to understand that none of us, including the teacher is going to be able to create a faultless and perfect project due to the time constraints, so please be mindful that you are not ‘starting over again’ as in squashing up pieces of pastes over and over because it’s not right, if you find you are doing this, please ask for help or do the best you can, it take practice to make something perfect and if you do find you are struggling with a particular area, please take some time at home to have another go.  None of the projects are over complicated due to the time constraints, but we do like to introduce different techniques and methods to widen your skills.

The projects are also not ‘prescriptive’ as in weighing out paste, the teacher will be giving you guidelines to the amounts of paste to use, we find that this allows people to find their own personal style and it can be amazing how different each students project can look, you can see this with the geisha's .

There may be a choice of ready-made colours for you to choose to make your project, but we do advise against colouring your own pastes at the class, this can be very time consuming and I’m sure you haven’t come to learn how to colour paste, but rather to make and finish your project without over-running on time too much.

Consider your fellow students too, if you are working on a project that needs you to make some repetitive elements and you whizz through yours and you notice a fellow student struggling, maybe offer to help them, or maybe they are finding it difficult to knead some hard paste - use your judgement but feel free to offer your help.

No offence is meant by the points above, and we appreciate that this may be the way you work anyway, but it doesn't hurt to remind ourselves every so often that it's not a competition, its a chance to relax, learn and have a bit of fun x

Hints and Tips

  • Students are advised to avoid wearing jewellery, as there have been incidents of jewellery being left behind at the class and the teacher can not be held responsible for any loss or damage.

  • We would also advise not to wear fluffy clothing during class, it will annoy you when you have fibers in your paste.

  • Cake Minds teachers are not obliged to provide aprons, so you may be asked to bring your own should you require one.
