Stacey's Designer Cakes
Hi, I am Stacey McFarlane from Stacey’s Designers Cakes in Stirling, central Scotland.
I started cake decorating over 9 years ago now when I made my fiancé a golf themed birthday cake, I then set myself a challenge to make my daughters first birthday cake which was a fairy castle, now she is eight years old she chooses what cake design she wants, and sets the standards higher every year , lol, we have a other daughter who is now doing the same.
Once I got the cake decorating bug I started making celebration cakes for friends and family which I loved, then as the kids became older and started full time at nursery and school I had more time on my hands, it was then I thought it’s time i took my hobby further and start my own business, this was over three years ago now, and love every minute of it.
In 2014 I studied at Glasgow College and gained grade A qualifications in Sugar Craft and latterly in 2017 attended Forth Valley college to further my education in cake decorating. I have learnt skills from some amazing teachers via numerous tutorials and also had the opportunity to attend cake decorating classes all over Europe. I really looking forward to passing these skills on to my students in my classes.
I have participated in a few collaborations at Cake International over the years which is an amazing experience and seeing everyone’s efforts for these shows is outstanding and the quality gets better each year. My next step would be entering the main show, hardest bit for me is picking what category to enter.
I am currently working from my recently renovated studio within the house, this means I can be there for the school run each day for my two girls. I am also in the process of being an Accredited Demonstrator with the Sugar Craft Guild, which I have been a member now for a number of years.
Although I do bake all my cakes , my passion is in the decorating, in particular the detail , I love the process of taking a client’s cake idea, designing it and transforming it into a cake masterpiece, finally getting the feeling of satisfaction when I see their reaction when I deliver the cake to them.
I am thrilled to be involved with Cake Minds as I believe strongly in the use of creative crafts and development of a hobby for promoting positive mental health. I think cake minds is a great idea as it builds new relationships as well as learning new skills and it helps to build supportive networks within our local community
I myself have suffered from anxiety and depression in the past and know first-hand the benefits that arts and crafts can bring to someone’s self-esteem. Crafting, baking or cake decoration lets you forget all your troubles for a while and focus on something positive, something that makes you feel good about yourself.
I look forward to meeting new people while having a laugh and a blether when making some fabulous cakes.
