Today is World Mental Health Day

... something that touches us all in some form or other at some point in our lives. It can be difficult to understand at times and it can be isolating and compounded especially if you work from home alone.

One of the reasons I have formed Cake Minds is to give those working from home a space for fun, a staffroom if you like, to take a step away from our busy lives, make ourselves accountable and to support each other, not just in our caking but in ourselves too. You can join our Facebook group here

I have believed for many years, and there is now evidence to show now, that regular meet ups and creative crafts are a huge benefit to our wellbeing and mental health.

This is why Cake Minds is looking to create a network of teachers to run small regular groups to chat and create in sugar, so that we become more than just virtual, we become part of a movement in this industry that works together despite and because of where we all started - at the grass roots level, we need to keep that at the front of our minds. Yes this is a business that everyone needs to make a living from, but we need to be kinder and work more cohesively, look out for one another and be so much more charitable than we are.

So many of us find ourselves in this industry as a therapy, to our own mental health, I know that is true for me and so many others that I have spoken too, how many teachers hear those words of how 'therapeutic' their class is, it's almost become a mantra. And how many who find the love of sugarcraft then end up drowning in it, it becomes all too stressful with late nights, low pay, and the pressure to achieve and be as good as everyone else.

It is one of the biggest home industries and surely one of the most stressful, we need to take care of ourselves and each other before we either burn out or take on so much anxiety and stress we loose the love for our creativeness altogether.

Lets stop beating ourselves up about our abilities and just enjoy them for what they are. Lets start cheering each other on and lets start being more charitable towards each other.

Life is short and precious, let's start working toward helping each other xxx

Rhu is passionate about her teachers, supporting and enabling them to build their own network of students. Most students are new to Sugarcraft and are cheered on as they pursue their own journeys in this exciting and diverse community, forming lifelong friendships that involve more than just the regular meetings.

Cake Minds aims to build a global network of teachers that offer new skills by bringing together the Sugarcraft community from a virtual platform to a local supportive community near you. Support and advice is offered in a mindful and creative space on a regular basis in small, friendly, informal settings.
