Cambridge and surrounding area
Here at Helenmarie’s Cake Boutique I am busy making cakes, holding cupcake parties and Hen parties, creating models for collaborations, running my own occasional classes and demonstrations in the Cambridge area. I love making people smile with my cakes and creating something that makes the recipient gasp !
I am particularly passionate making sugarcraft models and sculpted cakes and always enter the decorative exhibit category at Cake International where I can express myself through the piece, it gives me time to experiment and play with various mediums. I enjoy the process and how it all comes together at the end
I was most recently involved with Sugar WItches, at Cake International. As well as contributing a piece to the display, I helped man the stall and promote the collaboration. I think this what I like most about this industry is the freedom of working for myself and then the camaraderie from my fellow cake decorators, both local and world wide; online when we come together to present an exhibit that can be enjoyed by so many others.
I started making and decorating cakes when my youngest started pre-school in around 2011, I had spare time and my daughter wanted a Giant cupcake for her 10th birthday party. I was bitten by the decorating bug and now have a thriving business. It was a way for me to show my creativity, and artistic side. And it helped me build up my self confidence and meet people as I was fairly new to the area. I am proud to have been mentioned and have my cakes featured in a few articles in our local paper The Cambridge News,
Sugarcraft has helped me immensely, I have gained confidence and self worth, I have met and made new friends and made connections all over the world. Being a Cake Minds teacher, with projects that will appeal to a wide audience and all skill levels will enable me to share this experience with others.
I am really proud to have won Silver at Cake International in London 2016 for my piece Errol the Dragon, he is based on a character in my favourite author Terry Pratchett’s book, Guards, Guards. I still have him and he stands guard in my hallway.
Before I discovered cakes and sugarcraft my career was in child and social care, but I have also worked in retail management and pub management. In my spare time I attend a monthly craft club in my village and make dream catchers and macrame items. I’m originally from Newcastle upon Tyne and moved to Cambridge with my family in 2010.
I look forward to welcoming you to join me on these regular sugarcraft classes and creating many exciting little projects together.
